Kristiina Johanson
Kristiina obtained her previous degrees at the University of Tartu. After defending her doctoral thesis in 2018, she has dedicated herself to the study of archaeological plant remains. As a member of the Archemy group she has set-up a reference collection of contemporary plant remains, with the focus on both macroscopical as well as microscopical remains (phytoliths, starch grains). She has also started with the identification of archaeological plant micro- and macroremains from different contexts (e.g. soil, food crust).
Her research interests also cover different Stone Age topics, from the Mesolithic habitation of Estonia to the interpretations of stray–found Late Neolithic stone axes with shaft-hole. She has explored the provenance of flint artefacts from Estonian Stone Age settlements, applying several geochemical methods (e.g. XRF, XRD). At the moment she is working on the comparative collection of different flint raw materials.
